I'd always explain that EVERY THING we eat has protein. Even bananas and water melon.

Also, completely unrelated, thanks for visiting my blog today. And... obviously I'm spoiled with the garage thing. Currently we only have one space & we feel lucky to have that considering our previous house had us parking in the street.Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12518878163429768512noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1070628726970921460.post-69569359930636700952011-11-25T16:54:53.376+00:002011-11-25T16:54:53.376+00:00Zinc is a big one we're lacking in! Magnesium is another.

Yep no matter how much spinach or liver one eats it will not 'cure' pernicious anaemia - like you say that can only be helped by the B12 injections! :)

Shame it runs in the family, too, but I am glad I don't have it!Carahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02179779675327042949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1070628726970921460.post-31428713032467553852011-11-25T16:45:35.747+00:002011-11-25T16:45:35.747+00:00Very interesting I have always been interested in ...Very interesting I have always been interested in various diets-part of my Nursing training was suitable diets for certain conditions etc.
I love vegetables-something which did not happen until I was in my late teens twenties.I was always aware that green veg were needed for certain exchanges in the body.
As I watched my Mother become accustomed to cooking a diet suitable for my brother on Dialysis my awareness of the importance of varying your dietary intake to meet your individual needs grew.
I have a B12 defiency-my body does not absorb it or Zinc very well-I have B12 injections every 4-6 months. It's hereditary-ie the genetic predisposition to it is(pernicious anaemia)So I will not be following my Great-Grandfather's diet of raw liver(it didn't work & the anaemia killed him) Or my Granny's eating of pounds of spinach every day-she liked it anyway & her injections controlled her anaemia & her symptoms.
It is weird though that when my injection is due I find myself salivating at the Butcher's window & craving spinach.
I take Zinc as a supplement-which most folk should do it's hard to absorb enough in a normal diet.Jintyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09399340512731794936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1070628726970921460.post-74594002444604795242011-11-25T12:20:54.613+00:002011-11-25T12:20:54.613+00:00Thank you both! :D. People think you can't get enough calcium without cows' milk, but apparently the calcium from cows' milk can't be utilised by the body properly...

I'm now off to have wholemeal toast with almond butter and some orange juice, inspired by your chart! My calcium levels will be soaring! :)Pennyhttp://svh2.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
