In our living room lives this spare shade. I keep telling myself I'll put it in Roman's room but I never get round to doing that ;). Today Roman discovered it and has re-invented it as some kind of mask. "BOO! I SCARY!" he says, peeking out of the other side.

I really don't know what me or Roman will make of this photo in the years to come but for now; this is all I have of today. I don't want to say 'oh my goodness look at my messy hair/beginnings of wrinkles/general shabiness' because, well, does it even matter?
There are few and far between photos of me and Roman together. For both our sakes I told myself that'd change this year. So far it's been difficult to be in front of a camera and centre-stage...and then to see myself as others see me. But then I spotted something; our eye colour, mine and Roman's, is nearly an exact match. He was born with bright blue eyes; Bryan thought it would never change but I was so sure Ro would have green eyes. He's proved us both wrong and surprised me.
And for the sake of future reference; today we had a strange food aversion incident. I made vegan cheesy pasta (macaroni) with broccoli in it. I showed Ro that I was putting it into the mix and he was not bothered by this, or so it seemed. "Trees!" he said when he spotted the broccoli cooking. I served up his dinner and he sat beside me on the sofa to eat it. Well about 5 minutes in he started screaming hysterical and jumped right off the sofa as though he was in pain...feeling very guilty I realised I hadn't let it cool right down, thinking it would be okay to serve as is.
"Ro! Are you okay?" I proclaimed, checking him over. I quickly realised his problem wasn't the temperature of the food but the contents and in particular; the broccoli. He wasn't expecting it at all and it had freaked him out good style. He was shaking for at least a good hour after his scare but he still ate the broccoli! For the rest of the evening he was freaked out by the neighbour using his vacuum cleaner, any slight sound and was extremely clingy. My goodness I hope I haven't traumatised the poor child!

Waking up. I'd lifted the quilt off him, he still didn't rouse, so I went to get my camera and this is what waited for me on my return.
It was below freezing today in Scotland so we did what all sensible people do and stayed in doors. And naturally stayed in our PJs until 4pm. If I was less bothered I think we would have stayed in them all day, but a bath was had and we both dressed for what was left of the day.
Roman was tired today - going off to sleep around 1pm and me having to force him awake at 3.35pm. He was burrowed under his blanket and for one horrible moment in time I never want to have again, I thought he'd died. He wasn't moving, I couldn't hear him breathing or snoring and when I rubbed his back he didn't move.
His feet twitched and my worst nightmare died away. He rubbed his eyes and I knew he was fine. So I went off to get my camera. Life paused for one moment and suddenly resumed when everything was okay.
For life going on, being ordinary and average; I am grateful. I'm thankful to twitchy feet.
Just to be extra sure, I checked him over, and apart from being very sleepy there were no other obvious signs - just a little warm boy in a deep sleep, enjoying it and doing his best not to be disturbed.
B was also in a deep sleep and didn't hear me shouting on him when our shopping delivery arrived while me and Roman were in the bath ;). Is it hereditary? Maybe so.
Because I need to cheer myself up I have added some bonus pictures to this post - showing just how active he can become a few seconds from being the fluffy headed sleepy boy to the little boy full of beans, running around his room and getting into everything.
Press 'read more' to see them ;).
